Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are commonly known as porcelain veneers or porcelain laminates. They are paper-thin, bespoke, tooth-colored shells, crafted to cap the front rows of teeth. Its primary purpose is to improve the aesthetics and appearance of your teeth and smile. Once bonded, veneers can change the shape, size, length, or color of the front teeth. Veneers are the secret behind flawless celebrity smiles, and beautiful smile makeovers.

Dental veneers can be created from either porcelain or resin composite. Porcelain veneers are highly biocompatible, durable, stain-resistant, and reflect light just like natural teeth. We recommend a consultation to determine the best course of action. After a detailed discussion with you, Dr. Namrata and her team of experts at “The Smylist” will recommend which material is best suited to your needs. The results you desire along with your smile goals are also taken into consideration.

What sort of dental issues do dental veneers fix?

Discolored teeth (stains from tetracycline, fluorides; or resin fillings)

* Teeth that have deteriorated

* Chipped or broken teeth

* Uneven or misaligned teeth

 * Close gaps that exist between teeth

* Achieve a radiant, flawless smile

 Your porcelain (ceramic) veneers require 2 – 3 sittings over a week (approximately), while resin veneers can be done in one day with a single session.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth become discolored over a period of time due to several factors. From drinking tea, coffee, and wine, to smoking and other lifestyle choices, your teeth often pay the price. Advanced age also affects the color of your teeth, as the outer layer of the tooth, called enamel, loses its colour over time. Fortunately, you can restore your teeth to their former glory, at “The Smylist.”

Tooth Fillings

Tooth decay is one of the most common dental trouble that most of us have faced at some point in our lives. Food habits, neglect in oral care, and delayed dental checkups are some of the reasons that cause decay. Tooth fillings treat the cavities in one session usually. The decayed portion of the tooth is replaced with a filling material. The procedure restores the aesthetics and functionality of the teeth.

There is a variety of filling options available – the cosmetic composite tooth-colored fillings being the most popular. The other types of fillings would be porcelain and Glass Ionomer Cement fillings.

You can choose from several different types of fillings. We recommend that you schedule an appointment with Dr. Namrata so that we can evaluate your situation and make appropriate recommendations.

Several factors need to be considered before opting for a specific type of filling. These include the extent of decay, the remaining portion of natural tooth structure, cost, and other factors. When is tooth extraction required?

  • In case there are irregularities in the teeth or gums, some teeth may be removed to facilitate their treatment or alignment (orthodontia)
  • If a tooth is unable to break through the gums (erupt) due to a lack of space in the mouth, individual teeth may need to be removed
  • If a tooth grows in an odd angle, is too large for your mouth or its position hampers the alignment or integrity of the teeth
  • If a tooth or teeth are infected to a point where treatment is not possible, extraction may be used as a last resort to help preserve the rest of your teeth
  • In case of periodontal disease (gum disease), the gums and tissue surrounding teeth loosen, and it may be necessary to extract the affected teeth

Dental Crowns

What is a dental crown?

Dental crowns are caps, shaped like teeth. It is used to cover a tooth and helps rectify the tooth’s appearance, strength, shape, and size. When a crown is bonded to a tooth, it completely encases the entire portion of the tooth, which is visible at and above the gum line.

What issues do Dental Crowns help rectify?

  • If a tooth is weakened or damaged by decay or trauma, a dental crown is introduced to help protect the tooth from breaking. It is also used to hold parts of a cracked tooth together.
  • To help renew a broken or worn down tooth
  • It helps cover, protect and support a tooth which has large fillings, especially if there isn’t much natural tooth structure remaining
  • Dental crowns are used to help keep a dental bridge in place
  • To help cover unsightly or severely discolored teeth
  • Dental crowns cover dental implants
  • In situations where aesthetic or cosmetic changes need to be made

What types of Dental Crowns are available?

 Dental crowns are available in several materials which include:

  • All-porcelain (ceramic)
  • Porcelain fused to metal
  • All-metal (which include base metals like cobalt-chromium or nickel-chromium)
  • Temporary acrylic crowns
  • All resin crowns
  • Stainless steel crowns (for kids)

What are Onlays and 3/4th dental crowns?

On-lays and 3/4 crowns differ slightly from traditional dental crowns. The primary difference lies with their coverage of the tooth. While a regular crown covers the full tooth, the portion of the tooth covered by an on-lay or ¾th is lesser. On-lays or 3/4th crowns are recommended in specific situations where a traditional crown isn’t necessary.

How long do dental crowns last?

Dental crowns generally last between 5-15 years, depending on the material used, oral hygiene, and the severity of the situation.

We recommend scheduling an appointment with Dr. Namrata, and we will help you weigh your options. From fixing existing issues to planning for the future, “The Smylist” will make sure that you are well looked after.
